Four triangular bronze plates form a rhombus set within a plaster frame on the wall of a house inhabited by a family of four. Each plate is engraved with a sentence from Goethe’s Faust. Each sentence retains its own meaning, yet together they reconstruct the original passage. The inscriptions are oriented in different directions, reflecting the dynamics of a family, where each person has their own perspective on the world.
The four sentences are: “ALL THAT PASSES LEAVES ITS TRACE. THE ELUSIVE APPEARS HERE AS PRESENCE. THE INEFFABLE HERE FINDS ITS WORD. WHAT BECOMES ETERNAL HERE DRAWS US AWAY FROM THE WORLD.”
