A circular metal structure 15 meters in diameter supports twelve bronze swings with metal chains. One of these swings is weighted in the opposite direction to the other eleven, moving upward against the force of gravity. This swing is also hung with the same chain as the others.
The seats of the twelve swings feature twelve sentences, twelve affirmations, and quotations from Fyodor Dostoevsky, T.S. Eliot, Maria Stuart, Grandaddy, Jack Kerouac, Villiers de l'Isle-Adam via Leonardo Sciascia, Ludwig Wittgenstein, Karl Marx, and Martin Heidegger. The rest are mine. The one on the twelfth swing, the one upside down, contradicts all the others, casting doubt on their truth. Truth often defies the rules, like this swing that defies gravity.
The work is installed on a hill in Capalbio Scalo in Tuscany.
